Biden excuses Chinese oppression of Uighur Muslim minority as different “cultural norm.” Wrong. Chinese culture does not condone oppression, much less genocide, of minorities. Chinese communist regime does.
Attacks against Asians in US based on this error. Our leaders in & out of govt should make it clear that our dispute is with communist regime NOT Chinese people. But of course they won’t, since many of them depend on that regime for money and other goodies.
But what if it were a “cultural norm”? Would that make it right? Oppression of women & sexual abuse of minors are cultural norms in some places–so what? Civilized people recognize that basic moral principles apply everywhere, even to nations we do business with.
