Suppose a woman was driving alone at night and her car broke down. Suppose her cell phone could not get a signal. Suppose a man stopped his car and offered her a ride. Suppose she reluctantly accepted. “I’m going to the gas station on 14th Street,” she said. “That’s the way I’m going,” he replied.
As the car moved along, the woman read off the street signs: “21st, 22nd, 23rd,” and so on. “Aren’t we going the wrong way?” she asked. The man didn’t answer and continued driving. The woman knew she could not be sure of the man’s motives. But as she read off the street signs, and the numbers kept going in the wrong direction, she realized she would have to risk jumping out of a moving car in order to avoid a worse fate.
It’s the same with us. Defunding and demoralizing the police is resulting in dramatic rises in violent crimes. The Biden open borders policy is resulting in a humanitarian crisis. Allowing biological males to compete with girls and women is resulting in fewer women winning races and fewer getting athletic scholarships to college. Using leftist curricula in schools is resulting in lower scores in math and English. Prolonging the lockdown over one year is resulting in closed businesses and lost jobs. Welfare policies and declining religion are resulting in more and more children being born to single mothers.
Do the leftist elite who enforce these programs intend these destructive consequences? Who can say what they intended when they first instituted the programs? But like the woman who read off the street signs going in the wrong direction, we have been pointing out the damage for years. The leftist elite continue the programs despite being told we are going in the wrong direction. Whatever the elite intended at the beginning, the fact that they persist, despite being reminded of the bad results, forces us to conclude that they now intend to produce this damage.
Perhaps it is time to grab the steering wheel and change course. Unlike the woman whose car broke down, we can’t jump off. It’s our country and our civilization that are headed the wrong way. Either we save them or we ourselves are lost.
