Upset that thousands of illegal immigrants are being allowed to remain indefinitely? Worried about what kind of jobs will be available for those with third-grade educations and few skills? Concerned that criminals are being admitted, including members of violent gangs like MS13?
Relax. There are people who have been, and are being, deported. And who are they? Even more violent criminals? Drug dealers? Gun runners? No, veterans – often combat veterans – of the US Armed Services. Many were wounded and eligible for VA benefits, but how do they receive these benefits in foreign countries?
Many of these veterans were promised a path to citizenship before they enlisted. But like many promises our government makes, this one was not kept. Recall the words of Mother Teresa: “God did not call be to be successful; He called me to be faithful.” And what is the opposite of faithful? Faithless: disloyal, false, untrustworthy, treacherous, undependable, backstabbing, two-faced, deceitful.
If anyone deserves an expedited path to citizenship, it is a veteran, especially a combat veteran, and most especially a wounded veteran. Contact your senators and representative. Let them know how strongly you feel about this past-due debt.
