The whole purpose of the 1st Amendment’s religion clause is to protect religious people from government coercion. Now this has been turned on its head. Progressives believe the Amendment protects us from the slightest mention of religion, but allows the government to coerce and bully religious people, and religion itself, all it wants.

You want to live in a country where you can force a baker to decorate a cake celebrating a position he finds immoral? Then how about forcing doctors and nurses to participate in abortion and euthanasia, which they find immoral?

You want to live in a country where a “liberal” member of Congress wants to coerce the Catholic Church to offer Communion to a person their teachings declare is ineligible for it? Then how about forcing rabbis to preach that Israel’s founding was wrong, or forcing LDS preachers to declare that drinking coffee and cola is quite all right?

You want to live in a country like that? Then do nothing – we’re well on our way. But I refuse to live in a country like that. I intend to follow Pastor Niemöller’s advice and speak out – before they come for me.
