You see nothing wrong in forcing a Christian baker to decorate cakes in ways he finds morally offensive? You shrug your shoulders when a Democrat congressman threatens the Catholic Church if it denies Communion to Biden? Then where would you draw the line? Would you object if the government:

• Forbade Jewish congregations from reciting the Kaddish, the mourners’ prayer, for deceased members who were Republican?
• Forced Evangelical pastors to preach that you can be saved by voting Democrat?
• Forced Latter-day Saints to teach that communism is a valid alternative to free enterprise?
• Forced Seventh-day Adventists to observe the Sabbath on Sunday like everyone else (except Jews, but who cares what they do)?

The government co-opting churches has a sordid, bloody history in which Stalin and Hitler play leading roles. We have been warned. If we fail to heed such a costly warning, it’s on us.
