He had succeeded in the Army by kissing ass, not necessarily by kicking it. – Brad Thor, “Black List”
Gen. Mark Milley, Chairman of the Joint chiefs of Staff, is our senior military officer. As chairman, he is the senior advisor to the president and secretary of defense, but oddly, he has no direct command responsibilities. Gen. Milley has had a distinguished career including the 101st Airborne and Special Forces.
But to rise high in any bureaucracy, one must be more of a politician than whatever that bureaucracy was intended to do. So Gen. Milley feels he must mouth whatever “woke” words are required today; tomorrow other words may be required. The word today is “white rage,” and dutifully the general declares he is learning to understand it.
Really? Learn to attribute qualities to people solely because of their skin color? That is the very definition of racism. Who wants to learn that? But even if you did, from whom would you learn it? From the “wokest” person you could find, or from the Exalted Cyclops of the KKK? I’m sure both of these folks would be happy to teach you. Purveyors of hate are eager to share it with anyone willing to listen.
But how can we trust advice on life-and-death matters from someone who emulates a weathervane, moving whichever way the wind is blowing at the moment? Gen. Milley was soldier, a distinguished one. We need all of those we can get. Now he is a politician. We have too many of those already.
We can have a “woke” military, or we can have a combat-ready military. It’s our choice. But choose wisely. Our lives and our freedom depend on it.
