The World Will End Not With A Bang Or A Whimper, But From Pharmacology

The poet T. S. Elliot predicted that the world will end not with a bang but a whimper. But even he may have been an optimist. I believe that the world will end from pharmacology.

From the bottom up, we will die of hard drugs that used to be illegal but no longer are, because we imagined that there were too many people in prison. But we never understood that this is because there are too many people committing crimes.

And from the top down, we will die of drugs that promise to keep us looking young, and from drugs and vaccines we are forced by the government to take regardless of whether we need or want them.

But no worries. When the world ends, we will be too drugged to know it. And we will die looking young. We will have bobbled the pass and dropped in the dirt the baton that past generations handed us with so much effort and pain. No medal for us.
