• Report: CIA Director met secretly with Taliban leaders in Kabul Monday. Apparently asked them to extend Aug. 31 deadline, by which time they demand that all US troops be evacuated.
• Report: US troops already being evacuated from Kabul Airport. Clearly, Biden (or whoever is actually in charge) intends to have them gone by Aug. 31. But does this early evacuation mean that he intends to have the troops gone before Aug. 31?
In the film “Take the Money and Run,” Woody Allen portrays a nerdy teenager who is bullied by a gang. They repeatedly throw his glasses on the ground and stomp on them. Finally, when Woody sees the gang approaching, he throws his own glasses on the ground and stomps on them.
This scene was mildly amusing but rather sad. We pitied the kid who was bullied into smashing his own glasses. But are we now in the position of the nerdy kid? Are we now so weak that we can be bullied into removing our troops by the Taliban deadline, or even before that deadline? Sadly, the answer is yes.
Perhaps we should replace our national motto of “In God We Trust” with “Take the Money and Run.” But we’d better be in good shape – we’ll have to run fast and far. People without honor or guts will soon lose their money as well.
