Report: Biden Touts Catastrophic Exit From Afghanistan as an ‘Extraordinary Success’.
A prominent Soviet dissident, it may have been Sakharov, shed light on how propaganda functions in a totalitarian nation. For example, the Soviet economy limped along. But communist leaders proclaimed that it would soon surpass the American economy, though many people could barely get by. The leaders proclaimed record wheat harvests, though people stood in line for bread.
How did the communist elite expect the people to react? Obviously, they expected their lies to be believed. But if people recognized the lies as lies, and still parroted them out of fear, so much the better. If you accept the lies, you had sold your mind. But if you repeated something you knew to be a lie, you had sold your soul as well. Totalitarians are control freaks, and what greater control can there be than controlling what people think and say?
Are we there yet? No, but we’re well on our way. Does President Biden – or whoever is actually in charge – really believe that our precipitous exit from Afghanistan is an “extraordinary success”? Who knows? Who cares? The real question is whether they expect us to believe it. I suspect that the elite really don’t care whether we believe it or not. Like the Soviet Union, America has devolved to the point that so long as we shut up and pretend to believe it, the elite are satisfied. No one cares what sheep believe, so long as they go along with the flock.
An “extraordinary success”? Sure, why not? Sounds good. Whatever you say, boss.
