Chicago: 58 shot over weekend, including 4-year-old boy killed by a stray bullet. Chicago has strict gun-control laws, but of course guns will be blamed. The shooters will not be blamed. They, not the injured or dead, are the “victims” here. We need more money for more study of the “root causes” of violent crime. (Are there also “branch causes” and “twig causes”?)
No fathers or other positive male role models? No religion? No “Thou shalt not murder” or “Thou shalt not steal”? No discipline in school? No education that prepares kids for real jobs? Constant propaganda telling kids they are “victims” and “America stinks”? No, none of these obvious factors are important.
But if they are “victims,” then the people they shoot must not be victims. That’s what you get when you show more sympathy for criminals than for their victims.
