Teacher removes US flag from classroom, claiming, “That symbol doesn’t stand for freedom or justice or equality anymore. It stands for violence and menace and intolerance, and I will not fly that in my room.”
Questions for the teacher to answer in front of her class:
• What flag was flown by the Union Army when it vanquished the Confederacy and ended slavery at the cost of one-third million dead White men and boys?
• What flag was flown by the 101st Airborne when President Eisenhower sent it to integrate Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas?
• What flag was flown by US Marshals when President Kennedy sent them to escort six-year-old Ruby Bridges to school in New Orleans, Louisiana?
I could go on at length, but you get the point. To hate the flag that brought freedom to millions is to hate your own country to the point of irrationality. Such people belong in the therapist’s office, not in the classroom.
