The commander-in-chief of a state’s National Guard is the governor, unless the Guard is called into federal service by the president. So the officer who actually commands a state’s Guard is called the adjutant general. The adjutant general of the Oklahoma National Guard, with the approval of the governor, has ordered that no Guardsman be forced to take the vaccine, or face any negative consequences for not taking it. About 10% of the Oklahoma Guard are estimated to be unvaccinated.
As this occurs, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals reaffirms its decision staying the national vaccine mandate.
