“Happy Holiday” – Which One? Guy Fawkes Day?

On July 4 we hear, “Happy Fourth,” or “Happy Fourth of July,”or occasionally, “Happy Independence Day.”

On Thanksgiving, we hear, “Happy Thanksgiving,” or “Happy Turkey Day.”

On New Year’s we hear, “Happy New Year.”

And on other holidays, we hear best wishes for that day. So why is it that only on Christmas, we hear, “Happy holiday”? We virtually never hear that greeting for other holidays. Only Christmas stimulates that bland, colorless, insipid greeting.

And you were saying that there is no war on Christmas, that’s just a right-wing myth? Okay, then just try a hearty “Merry Christmas!” and see most people smile and reply with the same. Only leftists will frown, turn away, or at best murmur, “Happy holiday.” And their frown only inspires me to smile more broadly.
