What the Washington team is called is a matter of complete indifference to me. But the principle involved is an important on: Who decides what is best for a group ? Members of that group? Or some remote, faceless, nameless, unelected authority whose word must not be challenged?

Who decides what is taught in schools? Local school boards elected by parents, or the US Department of Education? Who decides what is best for children? Their parents, or school officials who barely know them? Who decides what car we drive (if any)? Ourselves, when we buy it, or some remote authority, unfamiliar with our needs – and utterly indifferent to them?

That’s the key question: Who decides? Individuals as close as possible to the situation, or remote officials motivated by their own agendas rather than our needs or wants?
