Israel formally declares war for first time since Yom Kippur War of 1973. We should have declared war after 9/11. As the proverb says, it “concentrates the mind.” If you declare war, you have to state with whom you are at war, and clarify your war aims. We never did either. So we got into a 20-year war with no clear goal.

Yes, we masterfully cleared the Taliban out of Afghanistan. But as a nation, we really never got out of the mindset of “The Little Goat.”
