In a shocking report that anyone could have discovered on Wikipedia years ago, the internet reveals that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spent some of his early years in the US. Apparently to some people, this is some sort of crime.He attended high school in Philadelphia, then Harvard and MIT.

In other shocking news, Netanyahu’s father, Benzion Mileikowsky, was born in 1910 in Warsaw. But it was not Poland. It was part of the Russian Empire of Czar Nicholas II. Benzion moved to Jerusalem and changer his name to Netanyahu, meaning God’s gift, similar to the name Jonathan. Many Jews changed their names to a more suitable Hebrew name.

Besides, Mileikowsky is not Benzion’s “real” name. Until a few centuries ago, most people outside the nobility did not have last names. Icelanders still do not. People were called John the son of Thomas, of Robert the Weaver, or Margaret the Thatcher, or Jan Novak, the new guy, or Johan Rothkopf, the redhead, or Samuel from Stolin, that is, Stolinsky. So calling a name “real” is meaningless at best, and deceptive at worst.

Benjamin was born in Tel Aviv in 1949. Not in Poland. Not in Palestine. Not in Zululand. In Israel. His current name is his birth name. Having studied in the US is a virtue, not a vice. Having warm relations with President Trump is an honor, not a disgrace.
