Lawyers Self-Regulate. Wait, What?
All other professions, including medicine, are regulated by the state. For example, the Medical Board licenses and regulates physicians in California. The Board is composed of physicians and non-physicians. The executive director is a non-physician. He supervises the enforcement of laws passed by non-physician legislators.
Lawyers, on the other hand, are licensed and regulated by other lawyers at the Bar Association. They enforce their own regulations. Self-regulation is by definition impossible. So we see travesties of justice like the disbarment of lawyers who represented President Trump, or who questioned the 2020 election.
