“It Will Stop”
As economist Herbert Stein said, “If something cannot go on forever, it will stop.” Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham cannot continue being beaten up forever.
Caitlin can sustain only a finite number of fingernails in the eye, ruptured eardrums, and falls to a hardwood floor. Sophie can sustain only a finite number of ruptured knee tendons and blows to the head.
But what is the end point? Either 1) competent officiating, or 2) career ending injury, or worse. Our choice. But we must choose. If we do not, number 2 will be chosen for us, in both senses of that word.
