• Colleague of mine: “The only reason people own guns is that they want to kill Blacks.”
• HHS Secretary Becerra on door-to-door vaccine searches: “It’s absolutely the government’s business to know who is not vaccinated.”

Hillary had no thought that in saying that hate was the only reason to vote Republican, she was revealing more about herself than about Republicans. Not a good choice to be president of all the people.

Strzok had no thought that in saying that Walmart shoppers smell bad, he was revealing himself to be an arrogant elitist who held ordinary people in contempt. Not a good choice for FBI official sworn to uphold all people’s rights.

My colleague had no thought that in ascribing Black-killing motives to all gun owners, he might be projecting his own violent, racist feelings. Not a good choice to be a physician.

Becerra had no thought that in denying the privacy of medical records, he was advocating violation of HIPAA law and of medical ethics. Not a good choice for high office, especially not for Health and Human Services. And what else might the government look for door-to-door? Guns? Anti-administration emails or posts? Unassembled Lego of Capitol still in box?

If we have any chance to come together as a nation and resolve our differences amicably – and that’s a really big if – we need to stop calling each other terrible names and ascribing homicidal motives to political opponents.

Which raises the real question: How many of us do want to reunify our nation, and how many are working to tear us further apart? Can any reasonable person doubt that the activists in Antifa, Black Lives Matter, Critical Race Theory, and other neo-Marxist groups seek nothing less than the destruction of America, and of Western Civilization itself?

You enjoy destroying things rather than building them? Fine. Get a job with a demolition contractor, but keep your hands off my country.
