Our International Reputation: Gone With The Wind

According to reports, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, the wife of Prince Charles, was speaking to President Biden at the Glasgow conference on climate change. At some point, Biden was said to emit a loud, prolonged gaseous expulsion, which the duchess reportedly can’t stop talking about. These reports are unconfirmed, although how could one confirm them?

White House spokespersons refuse to comment, no doubt hoping that the whole thing will just blow over.

One might hope that such shenanigans would occur anywhere except at a conference on global warming. Bovine flatulence is claimed to be a major cause of global warming, though some consider this a lot of hot air. Still, it is encouraging to know that there is something at which President Biden excels. It’s surely not military policy, as witness our precipitous withdrawal from Afghanistan. It’s not border security, which is nonexistent. It’s not the economy, which is suffering from supply-chain disruption, disincentives for workers, and looming inflation. But as they say, everyone is good at something.

A similar thing happened during the reign of the Roman Emperor Flatulentius Magnus, who was said to have entertained his courtiers with his unique interpretation of musical compositions. This was pointed out by the noted historian, Professor von Furzlasser, in his ground-breaking book, “Breaking Wind Through the Ages.” His lectures were famous for their clarity, though the lecture hall windows were kept open even in winter. Signed copies of his book are available from the publisher, the Better Not Press.
