There he goes, he’s at it again! Pastor Artur Pawlowski of Calgary, Alberta, Canada again kicks out police and health inspector who came to his church – not anytime but during worship. They wanted to check on mask wearing and social distancing. Instead, they checked on the pastor’s devotion to his faith and his dedication to freedom of religion. They needn’t have bothered – both are in outstanding condition. I wish we all could say as much.
Pastor means “shepherd.” Pastor Pawlowski is protecting and leading his flock in exemplary fashion. I wish our leaders, religious and secular, could say as much. Covid-19 is a dangerous pandemic. It is also a pry bar with which to attack the Bill of Rights. If we keep that in mind, we’ll know what to do.
The congregation is called Cave of Adullam, named after the cave where David sought refuge from King Saul, who was jealous of him. Their weekly services are on Saturday. Please, Pastor Pawlowski, be careful. Remember another non-mainstream Protestant church. They too worshipped on Saturday. They too incurred the wrath of the government. As a result they were raided, and many members, including children, were gassed and burned to death. They were called Branch Davidians. We pray that the Canadian Government will be more restrained than the US Government under Bill Clinton and Janet Reno. But in these unsettled times, who can be sure?
