NY Governor Kathy Hochul tells churchgoers that the unvaccinated “aren’t listening to God,” urges them to be her “disciples.”
Granted, those unfamiliar with religion often embarrass themselves when trying to use its terminology. But this reveals something even beyond hubris: an actual God complex.
Lincoln said it best: “My concern is not whether God is on our side; my greatest concern is to be on God’s side.” But times change. So do people. The would-be tyrants and Covid fanatics now claim to be speaking for God.
To continue with Lincoln’s thought, if I were a government official, I wouldn’t be so arrogant as to claim I was speaking for God. I would be more concerned to be sure I wasn’t speaking for the other guy.
