Media Admit An Error? Are You Joking?

Multiple “news” sources reported that Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick was bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher by rioters on the Jan. 6 incursion into the Capitol. Now the Chief Medical Examiner reports that the cause of death was 2 strokes. There was no evidence of blunt force trauma or of injury from chemical bear spray.

We all make mistakes. The greatest scientist of the 20th century, Einstein, described one aspect of his General Theory of Relativity as the greatest blunder of his life. In fact, one reason he was a great scientist was that he did admit when he was wrong.

So have you heard the major “news” sources admit they were wrong about the cause of Officer Sicknick’s death? Have you heard them examine their “news” gathering and reporting, so that spreading disinformation will not occur again? Have you seen the slightest shred of self-examination? I have not, nor do I expect to. The primary aim of most major “news” organization is to cherry-pick items that support their leftist agenda. And if no useful items are available, fabricate some.

American journalists used to emulate greats like Edward R. Murrow. He reported from London during the World War II blitz, the ferocious German bombing raids. Murrow pulled no punches in describing in vivid language the terrible damage and human toll the British were subjected to. But he never – not once – suggested the Brits might give in. He never – not once – implied they were unreasonable in standing alone against Hitler. He never – not once – tried to minimize German atrocities by claiming they had “legitimate grievances.” He never – not once – gave listeners any reason to doubt that he looked forward to total victory over Nazism.

But now no one emulates Murrow. No one even remembers him. Instead, major “news” organizations emulate the propagandists of tin-pot dictators and Marxist thugs. They see their job as not to discover and report the truth, but to invent it. So to admit an error would serve no purpose. They feel no need to restore their credibility – they never had any in the first place.
