“Chicago PD” is a popular show. Every few weeks 2 female officers are shot, knocked unconscious (grade 3 concussion), beaten up, held hostage, even hurt in an explosion. Ostensible motive: Show how tough women cops are. Possible motive: Satisfy sadistic misogynists. Less violence against women, please.

As the survivor of a fatal vehicle accident while in the Army Reserve, I can tell you that injury leaves you with scars to be proud of, but also physical and emotional disabilities that may last years. Let’s have fewer bruised and bloody women characters, and more scenes of recovery and rehabilitation. That’s real respect for women.
