Ami Horowitz, renegade videographer, asks New Yorkers why they wear masks outdoors. Note that masks outside are strongly encouraged in New York City, but NOT required. Mask wearers mention:
- Peer pressure – don’t want to stand out, or perhaps be thought to be a Republican.
- “Follow the science” though the science is equivocal at best, and negative at worst.
- Solidarity with those who have no choice and must wear masks.
- “Abundance of caution” named by those who are more timid than average.
Dennis Prager and Ami Horowitz declare that this is a dress rehearsal for totalitarianism. At first this seemed excessive. But on reflection, if anything it is an understatement. This is already totalitarianism. Try questioning – not opposing, just questioning – mask wearing, even mask wearing outdoors, even mask wearing outdoors when you are alone or with a family member. Unless you are lucky, your post will be taken down, and you may be deplatformed as well.
“Do as you are told and do not dare to question government orders.” If this is not totalitarianism, what is it? Salsa dancing? It surely is not anything contemplated by the authors of the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, or the Bill of Rights. And it most surely is nothing imagined by those who gave their lives to protect our freedom.
