During the 1992 LA riot, mail delivery stopped for over a week. There was a long line in front of the main post office. I saw a man patrolling. His jacket read “US Postal Inspector.” He had a pistol on his hip, but I wondered what one man could do. Then he turned around. He had a sawed-off shotgun in his hands. The people waiting for their mail were quite safe. Perhaps there is a lesson here.
