LATimes: Current surge of organized robbery and looting is mainly due to Prop. 47 passed by voters, which defines theft of less than $950 as a misdemeanor, not a felony. Does not mention that a misdemeanor can get you a year in jail. Does not mention that waving hammer, threatening clerks, smashing display cases is not theft but strong-arm robbery and perhaps also assault with a deadly weapon – both felonies. So it’s the fault of leftist DAs that offenders are not charged as such.
The paper blames the voters, not the leftist district attorneys. That is, it blame its readers, a risky proposition. But it doesn’t blame leftist prosecutors who decide their job is to aid criminal suspects, but to ignore their victims – and their future victims. The paper, like most papers, has degenerated into a leftist propaganda outlet, rather than a supporter of its own readers’ vital interests.
And they wonder why their circulation continues to drop. They and many of us have forgotten that Lady Justice holds a balance in one hand, but a sword in the other.
