Security For Me, But Not For The Peasants

ā€œI’m going to make sure I have security. I get to be here to do the work, so suck it up — and defunding the police has to happen. We need to defund the police.ā€

These are not the words of a tin-pot official in some banana republic. These are the words of U.S. Rep. Cori Bush (D, MO), member of the “Squad.” She was attempting to justify spending $70,000 on private security, while defunding police for ordinary people. The money comes from…she didn’t say. Her point was to emphasize that she considers her life more valuable than ours.

This arrogance was not something she downplayed, because she was aware it would anger the common people. On the contrary, she announced it loudly and publicly, to make sure we knew to keep in our place and respect our betters.

On second thought, I may be wrong. Maybe these are the words of a tin-pot official in a banana republic. You see, I thought I was still in my homeland, the United States of America. I sure am homesick. Any idea how I can get back there?
