Three Million Children MIE

By | March 3, 2021 | 0 Comments

Roughly 3 million students are no longer students. That many children – especially poor kids, kids with disabilities, migrant kids – are neither in school nor online with Zoom or other remote education tools. Soldiers who go missing in action are MIA. These unfortunate children are MIE – missing in education.

Some have moved, as is common with migrant families. Some have no computers or WiFi access, as is common with poor families. Some have fallen victim to abuse or human trafficking. Some have gone God-knows-where. But there are no teachers to report unexplained absences. There are no coaches or school nurses to report bruises. There are no principals to report suspicious behavior. Indeed, only God knows where the kids are. But does only He care?

Teachers’ unions are happy working from home. Epidemiologists are happy enjoying new-found power. Leftists are happy being in control. Only kids and parents (if any) are unhappy, or worse. But 3 million kids MIE? Who cares? Who even notices?
