“Extensive Planning” Produced Afghanistan Debacle

Gen. Milley: ‘What You Saw Unfold’ with Afghanistan Evacuation Was One of the Plans, ‘There Was an Extensive Amount of Planning in This.’

Years ago the owner of an advertising agency told his employees never to drink vodka at business lunches. He explained, “Vodka doesn’t smell. Drink something with an odor. If you do something stupid, I want customers to think it’s because you’re drunk, and not because I hired a stupid person.”

The same principle applies here. If the Afghanistan debacle was the result of an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment impulse, we might eventually forgive it. But if, as the general says, it was the result of extensive planning, we are dealing with utterly incompetent jackasses.

To quote former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, the whole thing was “imbecilic.” If the President, the State Department, and the Pentagon plan extensively, but produce an imbecilic plan, the whole lot of them – all the top leadership – should be shown the door. No, they must be shown the door, before they dream up another imbecilic plan with even worse results.
