92-year-old World War II veteran Pete DuPré plays National Anthem on harmonica to help send US Women’s Soccer Team on their way to the Olympics. Two players turned their backs. Apparently 92-year-old who risked his life for their freedom was the object of their contempt. In contrast, all Mexican team stood at attention for their anthem.

You may see this as blatant narcissism or simple rudeness. But it is much worse than that. It is similar to the cracks and sounds reported before the Florida condo tower collapsed. We are being warned of dangerous fissures in our national structure. Either we do our best to repair them now, or at some point that will be obvious only in retrospect, the whole beautiful edifice will collapse on us. The difference is that the building collapsed because of negligence, while our nation is being intentionally undermined. We have been warned.
