Remember the Scarecrow in “Wizard of Oz”? He had no brain, but when the wizard gave him an impressive diploma, he became proud and self-assured. Have you considered that we are ruled by an “elite” composed of Scarecrows? They have no brains, but their walls are covered with diplomas & certificates, and they are very proud and self-assured.

Two years of contradictory Covid policies? On the verge of a world war? Ballooning debt? Rising inflation? Energy dependent despite huge oil and gas reserves? Our friends dismayed and our enemies emboldened?

On second thought, this comparison may be unfair to scarecrows. At least they have heads stuffed with straw. The mess we are in is so huge that it must have been created by those whose heads are stuffed with a less pleasant substance that also begins with S.
