The French national holiday is Bastille Day, recalling the storming of the prison where political prisoners of the king were held. The Mexican national holiday is El Grito, recalling the cry for independence from Spain. Our national holiday we call Independence Day. Why? What does independence mean to us? Is freedom still precious to us? What are we willing to do to preserve it?
