Report: Lincoln Memorial vandalized overnight by pro-Palestinian activists. From the sadistic, misogynistic attack on Israel on Nov. 7, to this relatively benign destruction, the question remains: How do we inhibit further attacks?
The current approach is self-examination. What did we do to antagonize the Palestinians? What can we do to appease them? How much land should we offer them? How many more restriction should we put on Israel?
But doesn’t this approach conflict with how we act in other circumstances? You child misbehaves in school. Does the teacher offer him an extra dessert at lunch? Your dog gets into fights with other dogs while walking. Do you pet him and praise him while offering doggie treats? Of course not. Who uses positive reinforcement for destructive behavior?
No, you use negative reinforcement. You take away a privilege. For every attack, Israel should take away another square kilometer of territory. For every terrorist attack, America should do a bit of the opposite of what the terrorists demand. They want us to stop aid to Israel? Send another $10 million. When they see their goal getting further away, not closer, all but the most fanatical would have second thoughts. Perhaps they might consider replacing their failing leadership.
They desecrate the Lincoln Memorial? Send another shipment of anti-drone missiles. Make it clear that their behavior is counter-productive.
