Rupa Marya is a professor of medicine at UCSF, my alma mater. She is in the news because of media posts condemning “zionist” – that is, Jewish – doctors and claiming they are dangerous to patients and need to be investigated. No, I’ll tell you who are dangerous to patients and need to be investigated: overt anti-Semites and racists. How could they objectively evaluate Jewish medical students? More importantly, how could they be trusted to treat Jewish patients?
When I applied to UCSF back in the Jurassic Era, the first interviewer was sympathetic, and I hoped my chances were good. But the second interviewer was hostile and insisted I had an accent. Not a northern midwest accent accent, which I had, but a Yiddish accent and said “goink” instead of going. Perhaps because of this, I did not get in on the first round, though a classmate with lower grades did get in. I got in on the second round, but by that time my father had died of a heart attack and never knew.
Yes, there were traces of anti-Semitism back then, but only traces, unlike today, when bigots feel free to vent their poison in public. They teach and evaluate medical students, who pay $45,000 a year (even if they are California residents) for the privilege of being graded by racists. But what about the patients? They and we taxpayers pay to have their care supervised by intellectual cousins of Klansmen.
There is a saying that if “Never Again” means anything, it must start here and now. Get your filthy, socialist, racist hands off my alma mater. It cannot remain one of the top medical schools in the world under your perverted leadership.
