We watch “Chicago PD,” where a tough cop bends the rules to put violent criminals in jail. We watch “Chicago Fire,” where skilled paramedics save severely injured victims under difficult conditions. But sadly, that’s fiction.
In reality, we have a criminal justice system that releases violent felons back into the community. In this case, it released a violent felon eight times until he nearly killed a woman, and she may well die. The end point of this insane setup is to keep releasing criminals until they do kill someone – the exact opposite of what a criminal justice system is supposed to do. Instead of pushing criminals to reform, it encourages them to become more violent.
In reality, we have an emergency medical system where, before the Mideast war, Army medics were sent to big cities like Los Angeles to gain experience with gunshot wounds – you know, GSWs. Think about that. We allowed some of our big cities to become so violent that Army medics could train there. What a proud achievement!
