When U.S. troops got to Australia in World War II, they were annoyed by the raucous call of the kookaburra bird that they nicknamed the laughing jackass. But the insult was undeserved. The birdbrain was merely doing what nature told it to do. Here, on the other hand, we have someone with a human brain, or at least the remnants of one. He should know better. Speaker Johnson knows he should know better. But until noon, Jan. 20, 2025, we’re stuck with the laughing jackass.
