Victor Davis Hanson, timely as always, asks, “Is The Great Illusion In Ruins?” The “Great Illusion” is that socialism works. The answer to the question VDH sums up thus:
Now, as we enter the fourth year of the great experiment, America is $35 trillion in debt, borrowing $1 trillion every 100 days. Home mortgages are at 7 percent. Key prices for food, insurance, rent, and fuels are 30-40 percent higher than when Biden entered office.
Europeans believed (note past tense) that socialism works. But we Americans always suspected that the reality was this: After 1ooo years of capitalism creating wealth, socialism would push itself to center stage and decide how to rearrange things and redistribute that wealth. But soon, as Maggie Thatcher observed, the socialists would make a financial mess and run out of other people’s money.
Well, they did.
But what are the leftist geniuses going to do now? Use some new key strokes to create another trillion dollars out of thin air every 100 days? Even the petrified brains of the old socialists like Bernie Sanders, and the malfunctioning brains of the young socialists of the Squad, couldn’t believe that can work.
Time for us lab rats to admit the experiment has failed, and call it off before things get so bad that we scrap our Constitution in desperation, and look for a strong man to save us.
