The Anti-Fords

Henry Ford was a genius. At the time, automobiles were expensive, unreliable toys for the rich to tinker with on weekends. His idea was (1) to perfect the assembly line and manufacture cars more efficiently and cheaply, and (2) to pay his workers more so they could afford to buy the cars they were producing, thus creating his own market for his products.

But now we have a passel of hogs (yes, that is the correct term) who are striving to become anti-Fords. They want to move manufacturing to China, Mexico, or anywhere but America. Or, if this is impractical, to replace workers with AI. But robots don’t buy cars. And neither do workers paid inadequate wages.

All this can work for a while. But eventually, you wind up with a bunch of working poor or unemployed, who can’t afford even a used car. Then what will the hogs do? Ford was a huge success. The anti-Fords – not so much.
