Some of the 9/11 terrorists held in Guantanamo, including the mastermind KSM (Khalid Sheikh Mohamed) are to be released in a plea deal. Some see this as a triumph of diplomacy and negotiation. Others see it as a disgrace and an insult to the memories of the approximately 3000 people who were incinerated and crushed to death that day.

But I see it as the best argument yet advanced for the death penalty. The dead are not subject to plea deals or negotiation, no matter how woke and weak the negotiators may be.
