When a rational person does something, and it does not work, he tries something else. But when a true believer does something, and it does not work, he does more of it. He believes it is good not because it works. No, he believes it is good just because it is intrinsically good. So he keeps doing it, rather than search for something else that might actually work.

Defund and demoralize the police? Crime goes up. Disarm law-abiding citizens while allowing armed criminals back out on the street with minimal or no bail? Crime goes up. What to do?

Back the police. Put criminals in jail. Relax restrictions on law-abiding citizens buying guns. No, we can’t do that. It makes too much sense. We’ll just keep doing what we’re doing. It’s good. We learned that from our leftist teachers and professors.

And what about this young woman being followed on the street? She’s on her own. We have the gall to proclaim the Year of the Woman. The boxer with XY chromosomes who won a gold medal at the Olympics? Yes, that “woman.” But surely not this one. We ignore her completely.
