Ocean Temperatures Falling – Wait, What?
Surprise! Surface ocean temps deal chilling blow to green agenda
In the 1970s, the Scientific Consensus was that there was global cooling and we were at risk for another ice age. Then the Scientific Consensus shifted, there was global warming, and we were at risk for boiling oceans and extinction of all life.
But wait. Now studies show dramatic cooling of the oceans, in some cases ranging up to 1 degree Celsius. So will the Scientific Consensus shift yet again, and the next scare again will be global cooling? We wait expectantly for the proclamation from our superiors.
Note that I capitalize Scientific Consensus. This is standard practice for the names of deities, even pagan ones. You know, like Zeus, or Thor, or Climate. If we regard the Scientific Consensus like Catholics used to regard the Vatican, it needs to be capitalized.
On the other hand, if we regard things rationally, we can use lower-case letters. And we can listen to the late Michael Crichton, graduate of Harvard Medical School and author of “Jurassic Park” and other science fiction classics.
“I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re being had.
“Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus.
“There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.”
