“Energiearmut” – (German) Energy poverty.
The term was invented because of Angela Merkel, who was chancellor (prime minister) of Germany from 2005 to 2021. When she took office, Germany had adequate energy supplies. She closed all her nation’s nuclear power plants, and tried to close the coal-fired plants as well.
Like President Obama, she wanted energy costs to “skyrocket,” so people would use less energy and “save the planet.” But as a result, only the wealthy could afford to keep their lights on late at night and use their computers freely.
Same thing here. The Southwest is in the grip of a heat wave. Riverside, a satellite city of Los Angeles, expects 111 degrees today, and even higher in later days. People we know there have window air conditioners, but are not using them, despite the fact that they have seriously ill family members. Are the machines malfuctioning? No, they are working well. Is there a power outage? No, the power flows steadily.
But they can barely afford their electric bill now. Keeping the air conditioning on would leave them having to choose between rent and food. They are victims of Energiearmut. But of course, the Democrats, “the party of the little guy,” give not one millisecond’s thought to these people. They are too busy “saving the planet.” But who will save the planet from them?
Merkel grew up in East Germany. Like Barack Obama, communism may have been her first love. You never forget your first love. If you set out to impoverish and wreck a society or a nation, “skyrocketing” energy prices would be a clever move. Just sayin’.
