CBS News: Don’t Refer To Jerusalem As Israel’s Capital, Or Even As In Israel

In 1947 Pakistan was founded. It was ripped out of India because Muslims wanted their own nation. It had never existed before. Even the name was fabricated: Punjab, Afghanistan, Kashmir. The first capital was Karachi. The capital was then moved to Rawalpindi. and finally to Islamabad. Each time, the world’s diplomats and media dutifully honored the new location of the capital. No one, literally no one, refers to Pakistan as illegitimate or as belonging to India. No one, literally no one, denies the capital is Islamabad.
In 1948 Israel was reestablished. It first existed about 1200 BC. There had been a continuous Jewish presence there, despite expulsions by the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Romans. In 1948, from the outset, the capital was declared to be Jerusalem. But because that city was partly in Arab hands, some administrative offices were in Tel Aviv. So the world placed their embassies in Tel Aviv.
Since the 1967 War all Jerusalem has been in Israeli hands, yet the nations kept their embassies in Tel Aviv. With the approval of Congress, Trump moved our embassy to Jerusalem, which other presidents promised to do but did not.
All nations have the right to name their own capitals. In its brief history, Pakistan has had three. Except Jews. Only Israel lacks the right to name its own capital, according to CBS News. But you know what? I won’t be watching it any time soon.
