Mayorkas: “There Is Nothing They Can Do About The Drones”

Alejandro Mayorkas is famous, or infamous, for telling Congress under oath, “The border is secure.” When outright lies, perjury in fact, become acceptable, that’s not on the liar, that’s on us. Those who tolerate the intolerable will themselves become intolerable.

But wait, it gets worse: Mayorkas Says ‘There Is Nothing They Can Do About the NJ Drones.”

The amount of money we spend on “defense” is too large to picture in any meaningful way. We have the most advanced, most complex, most innovative…just the most. But we can’t shoot down a drone? Or equally alarming, we can’t find a general or a bureaucrat with the guts to order a shoot down.

But why be surprised? You don’t rise to the top levels of bureaucracy, civilian or military, by making waves. As the old Japanese proverb teaches us, “The nail that sticks up will be hammered down.” Steve Jobs didn’t spend his life trying to be promoted in Microsoft. He did his own thing in Steve Wozniac’s parents’ garage.

In wartime, if you are lucky, the war-fighters rise to the top. But in peacetime, which we imagine we are in, the pencil-pushers and paper-shufflers rise, often by stabbing rivals in the back. Shoot down a drone? It might damage property, and we’d get sued. Shoot down all the drones? General Wokefellow would never approve. He’s reluctant to sign his name to anything. No, best do nothing and keep your mouth shut.

If the drones, or whatever is controlling them, were capable of rational thought, no worries. By the time our fossilized bureaucracy decides to do anything, they will have run out of power and crashed on their own.

President Xi, take notice. President Putin, take note. Ayatollah Khamenei, pay attention. The tiger isn’t toothless, it just acts that way. Best do what you intend now. By Jan. 20, it will have regained the desire to bite. Really hard.
