“I Don’t Remember…”
Report: “Suspect in fatal New York subway burning ‘fanned the flames’ with his shirt, according to police testimony, but now he says he was drunk and does not remember the attack.”
Sometimes we don’t recall traumatic events in an effort at self-protection. But we do recall pleasurable events – which this horrific murder clearly was for this defendant.
I would recall charging up Old Sparky, it it were still in use and I were allowed to operate it. Oh yes, I would remember well.
The world is like an algebraic sum. You can increase the total either by increasing the positive numbers, or by decreasing the negative numbers. We have forgotten that second part.
John Lennon in “Imagine” dreamed of a world without nations and without religion. The Biden-Harris administration did their best to achieve that dream. But my dreams are less esoteric. I dream of a world where the Bible doesn’t gather dust on the shelf.
For example, take the verse that teaches, “If a man lie in wait and kill another by stealth, you shall take him from my very altar and put him to death.” And unlike Lennon’s dream, my dream would enable a disabled homeless woman to take her walker and ride the subway in safety, and not be burned alive. Yes, my dream is less lyrical, but more practical.
