Two months after the Pacific Palisades fire, take a drive through this upscale Los Angeles neighborhood. About 6500 homes were destroyed. But where are the cranes, the backhoes, the front loaders, even the Dumpsters? Note how few burned-out homes are being cleaned up, much less rebuilt.

The mayor was visiting in Africa. The main reservoir was under repair and empty, and the hydrants were dry. But the fire chief did not know this. As she said, this was the responsibility of the Department of Water and Power. She believed it was not her responsibility even to know about it, much less to station fire apparatus on site to keep watch, or as a local property developed did, to hire water tank trucks to stand by during the fire season of high winds.

And even now, two months later, the only tangible response has been to give the fire chief early retirement with a full pension. Make sure this non-response could never happen again? Speed clean-up? Rebuild homes, not convert to commercial properties? Oh no, California and especially Los Angeles are far too blue for that.

When they said Diversity, Inclusion, and Equity spell die, they weren’t joking. If “progressive” voters aren’t awakened by this disaster, they are too stupid to survive. The dinosaurs were large and powerful, too, but their brains were small. Have you seen any lately?
