Vehicle “Kill Switch” – What’s Left Of Our Freedom?
What’s next in the slow but steady clamp-down on individual freedom? I’ll tell you what’s next: The autonomous “kill switch.”
You cut the steering sharply to avoid a crazy cyclist? You slam on the brakes to avoid a sauntering animal? You open a bottle of rubbing alcohol or a pack of aromatic wipes to clean the yogurt or ice cream off your hands and not get it on the steering wheel?
But what if the chip, probably made in China, decides you are drunk or otherwise impaired, and kills your ignition in the middle of a freeway? And what if you can’t turn the vehicle on again? What if your trip to work, or to the hospital, is irretrievably interrupted?
One thing I will guarantee: Police cars will not be equipped with this “safety” device. When the list of what the government can do keeps getting longer, and the list of what you can do keeps getting shorter, this is not a hopeful sign for the survival of freedom.
Old joke from the days of communism:
American dog: When I bark, my owner gives me meat.
Polish dog: What’s meat?
Russian dog: What’s bark?
Debarking a dog is cruel. Debarking a people is worse.
