“Giving Hitler A Makeover”

As he often does, Greg Gutfeld says it best, and more succinctly. He points out that when leftists call someone “Hitler” or a “Nazi,” all they really “Giving Hitler A Makeover.” All they really mean is, “I don’t like that guy.”

I was called “Nazi” twice, by a former colleague and a former friend. Given time, I can forgive the deep personal insult. But I can never forgive the trivialization of Nazism and, by extension, the denial of the Holocaust.

If I am a Nazi, the Nazis were just traditional liberals. I am what I was, a John F. Kennedy Democrat: Free speech, strong defense, strong anti-communism, lower taxes, outstretched hand to political opponents. If that is “Nazi,” how bad could the Nazis have been? No concentration camps, no gas chambers, no crematoria, no dead six million Jewa, including over a million children.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. No dead uncle whom I never met, my father’s eldest brother, about whom he never spoke. In those days men didn’t talk a lot, but my father didn’t talk about him at all. No, he wasn’t murdered in the Holocaust. He retired as the night manager in a Denny’s on the Interstate outside Omaha. And of course, if he ever got a tattoo, it likely was an eagle, not a number on his arm.

Are you getting the sense that I resent the label “Nazi” rather strongly?
