Two Israeli Embassy Staffers Shot In Washington

The young couple were dating and were about to become engaged. The young man had already bought a ring. But instead of a wedding, their families and friends will attend a funeral. To this we must add the accomplishments they will never achieve, and the children they will never have. When you kill young persons, you kill all the descendants they will never have. That is the personal tragedy.

And then there is the public tragedy. Two staffers of a foreign embassy, who are official guests in our country, cannot walk down a street in our capital city without being shot to death. That is an insult to our sovereignty, to our integrity as a nation. The fact that this was near the Washington Field Office of the FBI makes it an even greater insult.

Hatred is an infectious disease. The murderer in this case caught a really bad case of it. From where, and from whom, careful investigation will reveal.

But it does not take Sherlock Holmes to uncover the rampant, blatant anti-Semitism in leading universities. When Jewish students are physically blocked from attending classes at UCLA, and are forced to lock themselves in a room at Columbia to escape a violent mob, it does not take a genius to determine that something has gone terribly wrong.

The way to stop teaching hate is to stop teaching hate. And surely, to stop taking out second mortgages to pay exorbitant tuition to have your children taught to hate. No more of that, please. It makes some people really, really angry. No more young Jewish couples lying dead on the street. Some of us have long memories.
